Approximately 300 Marion County Farm Bureau members enjoyed a Member Appreciation/Annual Meeting meal at Dyer Hudson Hall on Saturday, June 23. Special guests included Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill and State Farm Bureau Director Calvin Rozenboom.
Robbie Wolfgang, driver of the Phillips Floors #7k race car, which was on site and available for photographs by the Knoxville Camera Club. Three Partners of Choice, U. S. Cellular, Curves, and Hanlon Chiropractic and Wellness, were available to answer questions about the discounts they offer members. The program includes 19 local businesses that offer special benefits to Farm Bureau members.
County Vice President David Van Rheenen reviewed the county resolutions developed through an opinionnaire completed by members. The resolutions covered topics including energy, education, farm programs, taxation, and rural infrastructure. Resolutions from all counties will be combined to determine Farm Bureau policy for the coming year.
President Hill reviewed legislative actions and issues pending in Iowa and nationally. He emphasized the need to repair Iowa’s deteriorating infrastructure—something vital to all Iowans due to the impact on jobs and Iowa’s overall economy.
Regional Manager Jeff Probasco asked members to challenge inaccurate information stated as facts by activists who oppose animal agriculture. Rozenboom shared why he originally joined Farm Bureau and feels membership is so valuable.
“We were very pleased to have so many attend, despite the weather,” said County President Mary Van Zante. “Farm Bureau is a strong, respected voice for agriculture, and membership offers benefits not only for farmers but for everyone. It was disappointing that rain canceled Farm Bureau Night at the Races, but the much-needed rain was certainly welcome.” Van Zante recognized Evelyn Beebout for her many years of leading the Farm Bureau scholarship program.
