Pella —
On December 17, 2012, at 8:29 am the Pella Police Department responded to reports of an armed man chasing a person in Pella’s Brook Circle neighborhood. Subsequent reports from eye witnesses indicated that the assailant was firing a handgun at the fleeing man as they ran through the neighborhood.
While officers were en route to Brook Circle the assailant, Mr. Shaw, entered his vehicle and fled the scene, traveling east toward Pella on Idaho Drive. Pella officers intercepted and stopped Shaw’s vehicle in the vicinity of University St. and Central Dr. where they remained in a standoff with Shaw. Shaw eventually ended the situation with a self-inflicted handgun wound.
Shaw was transported by Pella Ambulance to Pella Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead. The investigation into this matter continues.
The Pella Police Department was assisted in this matter by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Department of Natural Resources.
