Pella —
In a large small-town in Connecticut lives an ordinary American family. It is 1906, and as the family celebrates the Fourth of July, what concerns them most is the youthful fervor of Richard. Fresh out of high school, the family's would-be rebel reads Swinburne, Shaw, Wilde and Omar Khayyam, and his mother worries. Richard is an incipient anarchist; he hates capitalism and it irritates his brother. He quotes passionate poetry and his father looks disturbed. Richard is also passionately in love with a neighbor's girl, and means to marry her. And it all adds up to trouble.
Ah, Wilderness! is an American classic, written by Eugene O'Neill and opening on Broadway in 1933. O'Neill was the first American dramatist to regard the stage as a literary medium. He was honored with four Pulitzer prizes during his lifetime, and is the only American playwright to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. Presented by the Central College Theatre department, this charming coming of age comedy features guest artist Tom Vander Well, a local stage veteran and member of the Union Street Players, Pella's award-winning community theatre.
The show opens February 27 in the Kruidenier Center and runs through March 2nd. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be obtained at the info booth in Maytag Student Center-free with student ID.
