Central College was awarded a major grant of $9,900 from the Iowa Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts for a residency and performances by Theatre of Sound. The group will be on campus Monday-Friday, Sept. 14-18.
Michael Bashaw, artistic director of Theatre of Sound, will conduct workshops with Central’s Intersections’ students Monday-Wednesday, in which they will create sound sculptures which will be incorporated into the performances on Thursday and Friday evenings in Douwstra Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. The workshops are devised to help students understand the role and importance of creativity and the creative process through hands-on involvement in the arts. Intersections is a first-year experience course in which all first-year students at Central participate. Intersections is an interdisciplinary seminar designed to introduce students to the intellectual life at a liberal arts college.
