Painter John Preston exhibits landscapes in Central College Mills Gallery

Pella — Artist John Preston will be displaying his landscape paintings in the Central College Mills Gallery starting Feb. 20. Originally from the east coast, Preston moved to Fairfield, Iowa, to study in 1984.

His popular landscapes derive from Jefferson and Van Buren counties, featuring fields, tree islands, fence rows and paths of gravel curving over prairies. The paintings are back dropped against a variety of weather events from his observations, memories and imagination.

Preston earned his B.F.A. at Maharishi International University. Now painting full time, Preston has participated in many solo and group shows, and his works hang in a wide range of collections, including those of Equitable of Iowa, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Hubbell Realty, Iowa State Bank, Amoco Oil, Brunnier Art Museum at Iowa State University, Farm Bureau Financial Services and the Hotel Pattee.

The exhibit will be open until March 22. In addition to his work in the gallery, Preston will host an artist talk and reception on February 27 at 5 p.m.

Preston’s work can be seen during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Treva Reimer, Mills Gallery director, at 641-628-5334 or reimert@central.edu.
