Central College announces new faculty members

Pella — Central College introduces nine new faculty members for the 2012-2013 school year. Five tenure-line faculty and four visiting faculty members will join the Central community.

Shelly Bradfield, assistant professor of communication, earned her B.A from Andrews University and an Honors B.A. and M.A. from Rand Afrikaans University in Johannesburg. She earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington.

Andy Campbell, assistant professor of business management, received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Iowa. He also earned his M.B.A. from the University of Iowa.

Kate Gaebel, assistant professor of education, double majored in German and psychology at the University of Notre Dame. Continuing her studies at The Ohio State University, she earned both an M.A. and Ph.D. in educational policy and leadership.

Uwaoma “George” Nwaogu began in January 2012, as assistant professor of economics. He earned his B.A in economics and population studies from the University of Botswana. Nwaogu went on to Western Michigan University where he earned a M.A. and Ph.D. in applied economics. His specialty is international, monetary and labor economics.

Ashley Scolaro, assistant professor of psychology, earned her B.S. from Drake University in neuroscience and biology. She went on to Iowa State University to earn a M.S in psychology and a dual Ph.D. in neuroscience and psychology.

James Dunne, visiting assistant professor of chemistry, has a B.S. in chemistry from Grove City College and earned a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Iowa State University. He continued at Iowa State University in a post-doctoral position for one year.

Diane Phoenix-Neal, visiting assistant professor of music, will also serve as director of the orchestra/upper strings. Phoenix-Neal earned her B.A. in music with a concentration in viola performance from the University of North Carolina. She had a rich array of training, culminating in the receipt of a D.M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Susan Wight Swanson, visiting instructor of art, received her B.A. and M.A. of art history at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She is a doctoral candidate at the university with a dissertation titled “The Work of the Magi: Adoration Imagery and Visions of Globalization in Early Modern Europe.”

Michael Cody Huisman ’07, visiting clinical instructor of exercise science, has a B.A. in exercise science from Central and earned a degree in chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He was a chiropractor at ChrioSport before accepting his position at Central.
