Central College welcomes two new staff members, as well as two promotions in the Information Technology Services department.
Lee Weers, a 2000 Iowa State University graduate, was promoted to director of ITS infrastructure. After majoring in management information systems, he has worked at Central for eight years in the department. His responsibilities include the wired and wireless networks, Microsoft Windows servers, phone system, cable television, cloud services, disaster recovery and information security.
Sandy Verhoef, an employee at Central for 15 years, was promoted to assistant director for desktop services. Verhoef is a graduate of William Penn University and has managed the computer help center for students. In her new position, she will lead desktop support services for the entire Central community.
Dustin Green, a 2012 Central alumnus, has joined the ITS department as desktop system administrator. As a computer science major and ITS intern, Green implemented the virtualization of the Geisler Library computers. As a staff member, he will continue work on desktop virtualization and desktop imaging, as well as lead the installation of campus-wide system monitoring software.
Amirta Basu attended Jadavpur University as an economics major and later earned her master’s in computer science from the University of Georgia. Basu will join the Central community in November as a web programmer/analyst. Recently, Basu worked as an application developer at the State Hygenic Lab at the University of Iowa. Her responsibilities will be supporting the web portal, Colleague, SharePoint and other software applications.

Central College holds 2013 baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies
Baccalaureate service, a gathering of the class, will begin at 3 p.m. in Douwstra Auditorium. A wine and cheese reception for the senior class, hosted by Central College President Mark Putnam and his wife Tammy, will be held in the Bornt Plaza and Graham Annex at 4 p.m. The commencement ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. in H.S. Kuyper Fieldhouse.
