Pella —
Central College has been chosen by Business Horizons as the site for their summer program for high school students. From Sunday, July 15 thru Thursday, July 19, more than 100 students will live in the residence halls on campus while participating in the program.
“This is a great opportunity for the college to showcase the campus and our business programs to high school students and their parents,” said Wade Steenhoek, director of the Martin Heerema Entrepreneurship Program at Central.
Business Horizons, a program of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) Foundation, is a hands-on, action-oriented experience for high school students who want to learn about what their future holds in the business world.
“We are very excited that Central College will be the host site for our Business Horizons 2012 experience,” said Steve Simon, Chair, Business Horizons Board. “The support we have received from the college, the community and our alumni should make this a great event for our high school participants.”
The program will offer high school students the chance to experience college life in advance. It is designed to help them jumpstart their careers—inspiring their career plans, improving their resumes and preparing them for job interviews.
High school students who participate in Business Horizons and then go on to attend Central College will be guaranteed a minimum of $12,000 in Central College scholarship assistance. An option to earn college credit will also be available.
“This program fits with our strategy of creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem at Central College,” said Steenhoek. “Business Horizons is an extension of that ecosystem to a whole new audience.”
The program is open to Iowa students in grades 9-12. Out-of-state students are welcome if space permits. The cost to attend the program is $350 with discounts given for early applicants—$75 discount if received by April 1, $25 discount if received by May 15.
