CENTERVILLE —
The Centerville City Council accepted city clerk Kim Crego's retirement request earlier this week.
Crego announced her retirement due to health reasons in early December, effective Dec. 16. Crego's first day as the Centerville city clerk was July 26, 2010. In November 2010 shee took on the additional role of commissioner of municipal services.
A portion of Crego's retirement letter was published in the city council's agenda packet.
"Please consider this as my official retirement notice effective Dec. 16. It has been my honor to be able to assist the city with their vision. Unfortunately my health will not allow me to continue. I am certain the Council will take the city where it needs to go. Best wishes."
Councilman Rob Lind went on the record regarding Crego's retirement.
"I would like to state for the record that it's been a difficult year-and-one-half to two years trying to chart a new course for city government but I think Kim did a very good job in many areas to get us on that course and with the proper lead and I would just like to say that I appreciate what she has done," Lind said. "The things that she worked on and helped us get this far. It wasn't no easy thing and it's bound to continue to kind of evolve as we go along."
A man in the audience who didn't identify himself, immediately following the council's 5-0 vote, said, "Hallelujah. It's about time."
The council during their Dec. 3 meeting appointed Joyce Davis as temporary city clerk due to Crego's absence.
