Centerville councilman resigns

CENTERVILLE — Centerville City Councilman Randy Marcussen has formally resigned from his position as city councilman.

Marcussen sent the e-mail to the city clerk, Centerville mayor Jim Senior and his fellow city council members Sunday afternoon. Councilman Edwin Brand provided the e-mail to the Daily Iowegian.

In the resignation e-mail, Marcussen says he is resigning after a year and a half of serving on the council, due to work and family commitments.

"Please accept this e-mail as my formal resignation as Centerville City Councilman," Marcussen wrote in the e-mail. "I was greatly honored to have served on the council in the past year and a half, and I want [to] say a very large thanks to the people of Centerville.

"Due to my responsibilities to the Centerville Schools and obligations to my family, I no longer feel I can allocate the needed time to my councilman position."

Marcussen was elected to the councilperson at large seat for the city of Centerville in the Nov. 8, 2011 election. He took over the seat from Wallace Carter, who did not run for re-election.
