Pear and Almond Tart

Pella — 1 (8-oz.) can almond paste

5 cups peeled, sliced pears

1/4 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp sugar, divided

2 Tbsp flour

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

2 Tbsp lemon juice

1 beaten egg

3 Tbsp almonds

1 9-inch unbaked pie crust and top crust

1. Preheat oven to 375F.

2. Shape almond paste into a disk and flatten into 8-inch circle. Place in bottom of pie crust.

3. In a bowl, toss pears, 1/4 cup sugar, flour cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.  Spoon into crust.

4. Top with second crust; brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with almonds and 1 Tbsp sugar.

5. Bake for 55 minutes or until pears are soft and crust is golden.
