Pella —
March 19 is Certified Nurses Day, a day to celebrate and publicly acknowledge nurses who care enough to earn and maintain the highest credentials in their specialty. In the past five years, Pella Regional went from only four nurses who were certified in specialty areas to 44 certified nurses – about 31 percent of the entire nursing staff. A nursing certification affirms advanced knowledge, skill, and practice to meet the challenges of nursing.
“The nursing staff at Pella Regional is among the best. Their skill and dedication creates an environment where our patients can get the best care to meet their medical needs,” said Bob Kroese, chief executive officer at Pella Regional Health Center.
The following Pella Regional Health Center employees have recently gained professional certifications in their area of expertise. They join a growing list of employees at Pella Regional who have increased their knowledge to improve the care of patients.
Bridget Drafahl, MSN, RN-BC, Nursing, received her certification for nursing professional development. The focus of this certification is on the practice of nursing, with some additional topics of nursing education, nursing leadership and communication.
Robin Nossaman, RN, BSN, Dialysis, received her certified dialysis nurse (CDN). This certification shows competence in four different areas: renal failure concepts, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and transplant.
Valerie Schultz, CCHT, phlebotomist, Dialysis, received her certified hemodialysis technologist/technician. The certification exam covers five major areas—patient care, machine technology, water treatment, dialyzer reprocessing, education/personal development—of practice and tasks performed in the scope of hemodialysis technology.
