Pella —
The Pella High School Marching Dutch finished their competitive season on Saturday, October 13, with two outstanding performances at the IHSMA State Marching Band Contest in Pella and at the Mid-Iowa Band Championships in Ankeny. The Marching Dutch earned their 37th consecutive division I “Superior” rating that afternoon in Pella receiving a score of 92.8. That evening in Ankeny, they placed 1st in class 3A at the Mid-Iowa Band Championships while taking top honors in Percussion. Their score of 86.5 earned top honors for all classes.
Their show this fall was entitled Catch Me If You Can. The program was based off the amazing life story of Frank William Abagnale Jr. who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars' worth of checks as a Pan Am pilot, doctor, and legal prosecutor. Forty years later, he is still widely considered to be one of the most amazing and daring con artists in United States history. Now an independent consultant to many fortune 500 companies, Mr. Abagnale served his prison sentence working for the FBI’s check forgery prevention and prosecution unit. His story eventually became a best selling autobiography and blockbuster movie in 2002, which stared Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
The Marching Dutch staff and students would like to thank the parents, volunteers, and community for their continued support throughout the 2012 marching band season.
