PCHS concludes Theatre Season with "Thieves' Carnival" this weekend

Pella — Pella Christian High School will be presenting their spring comedy, Thieves' Carnival, this Friday and Saturday, March 22 and 23, 2013.  Both performances will begin at 7:00 pm in the Vermeer Auditorium at Pella Christian High School, 300 Eagle Lane.

The most successful of French playwright Jean Anouilh's works, Thieves' Carnival is set in the public gardens of Vichey in the 1880s.  Loaded with humorous whims, romance, and masquerades, the entertaining story centers around three bumbling pick-pocketers, a country bumpkin and his overbearing mother, and an elderly aunt who, with her two beautiful nieces, are insufferably bored.  A roving musician continually sets the mood of the colorful carnival season along with the elaborate period costumes and the blissful summer visitors.

Joey Harger, Cory Van Gilst, and Jordan Breon play the bumbling pick-pocketers set out for an adventure.  Delaney Dugger and Maverick Risley play Lady Hurf and Lord Edgard with the two nieces being played by Kristina Van Der Pol and Madison Thingstad.

Adding additional humor are the Dupont-Dufords, being played by Courtney Griggs and Nick Van Beek.  Leslie Pence is playing clarinet as the roving musician.

The comedy includes a cast of 20 students and 16 technicians and crew members.  Students in leadership positions include Cailee Veenstra (Student Director), Jon Larson (Production Coordinator), Sarah Fopma (Lights), Nathan Champlin (Sound), and Vanessa Blankespoor (Makeup).

The production is being directed by Marlo Van Peursem with Tech direction by Daryl Van Zee.

Reserved Tickets for this weekend's production of Thieves' Carnival are on sale in the school office at $5 for Adults and $4 for students.  Remaining seats will be sold at the door.
