BREAKING NEWS: Body found

Lake Red Rock — The body of a drowning victim at Lake Red Rock was found at around 6:25 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Marion County Sheriff Ron Goemaat told us that the body of Derek Long, 25, came to the surface behind Dutchman's Landing. He, and other first responders, went to the site to retrieve the body. A brief service was held with the family at the site.

The local medical examiner is looking at the body. The body will be transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office via ambulance when the local examination is complete.

Long went down in the lake around 3:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon. He had jumped in to help a six-year-old child and did not resurface. The child was safely recovered by Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials.
