January 24 Central College presents Writer's Reading: Sara Perez
Sara Perez is a poet and nonfiction writer who received her MFA in Creative Writing and Environment from Iowa State University. She also holds an MA in Literature with an emphasis in the study of Children's Literature. A Central College alumna, Sara taught Kindergarten for few years after graduating and currently teaches writing and literature at Iowa State, GrandView University and Simpson College. She is seeking publication for her collection of lyric essays. She will present her work at 7:30 pm in the Geisler Reading Room, Centrral College.

January 26 25th Annual Bald Eagle Day
Celebrate the comeback of the bald eagle! This family-friendly event features live eagle and raptor shows, an environmental fair and kids' craft activities at Central College's Graham Conference Center from 10 am-5 pm. After attending the indoor programs, take a short drive to Lake Red Rock and watch eagles flying and feeding below the Red Rock Dam! Volunteers will be on hand with spotting scopes in the North Tailwater Recreation Area to help you spot the birds and answer questions. January 26 Families First presents Giraffes Can't Dance Book Bash
Join Families First of Pella for a morning filled with crafts, activities, and information for parents. The first 50 families with a child age 0-5 will receive a free copy of the book "Giraffes Can't Dance"! At the Pella Public Library from 10-11:30 am; funded by Marion County Empowerment and The Friends of the Pella Public Library.

January 30 ACTS Service Surge 2013 Planning Session
ACTS works to connect those who need assistance with those willing to lend a hand through volunteering time and talents. ACTS annual Service Surge organizes several volunteers for a day to serve others, and individuals who are passionate about helping others are needed to help organize this year's event. February 1 Central College presents Ashanti with Christian Howes
Christian Howes grew up in Columbus, Ohio and received a degree in Philosophy from the Ohio State University. As an educator, performer and composer, Howes has gained great notoriety and respect from critics and players alike. He was a favorite of the late Les Paul with whom he worked for 11 years. In recent years, Howes as become an in-demand violinist on the New York scene and in August 2011, he was ranked as the #1 violinist in the Downbeat Critics Poll "Rising Stars." 8 pm, Central's Grand Central Station.
February 2 Central College presents Jazz Band Concert
