February 1 Central College presents Ashanti with Christian Howes

Christian Howes grew up in Columbus, Ohio and received a degree in Philosophy from the Ohio State University.  As an educator, performer and composer, Howes has gained great notoriety and respect from critics and players alike.  He was a favorite of the late Les Paul with whom he worked for 11 years.  In recent years, Howes as become an in-demand violinist on the New York scene and in August 2011, he was ranked as the #1 violinist in the Downbeat Critics Poll "Rising Stars." 8 pm, Central's Grand Central Station.





February 1 Pella Opera House presents Co'Motion Dance Theatre

Dance returns to the Opera House stage with Valerie Williams' company from Ames, Iowa. Professional modern dance performances for people of all ages, Co'Motion Dance believes dance is for everyone! This production made possible, in part, through the generous support of the Marion County Community Foundation. Tickets are $17 for adults, $5 for students; showtime is 7 pm. February 2 Central College presents Jazz Band Concert

Jazz Band Concert featuring jazz violinist Christian Howes at 7:30 pm in Douwstra Auditorium. Gabriel Espinosa will be directing. Tickets:  $5 adults, Free with Central ID. Ticket required ~ Available at the CoxSnow Music Center.





February 3 Central College presents The Art of Storytelling with Kent Busman

Kent Busman is the director of Fowler Camp and Retreat Center, a youth camp in Speculator, NY. Kent is also an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America, living in Scotia, NY. Kent uses storytelling as more than just entertainment - he also sees it as a wonderfully subversive way of teaching. Kent believes that telling stories of caring for the world, tales of wonder and joy, and stories of faith and hope, help to remind the listeners not only of how special the world is, but helps clarify our role in it too. He will be sharing his stories following normal worship at Second Reformed Church at 9:45 am.





February 5 Pella Area Quilters Guild February Meeting

Our program will be a Trunk Show given by Tami Hemmer.  Tami is a local quilter who has made some awesome quilts.  The Pella Area Quilters Guild consists of members of all quilting abilities and interests.  A time is provided for show and tell of the members projects.  We welcome guests or new members at every meeting.The meeting will be held at 7 PM in Room 101 at Third Reformed Church, 708 East 13th St.





February 8 Habitat for Humanity's "Home Sweet Home" Dessert Concert

Help house needy families and support Habitat for Humanity at their Home Sweet Home Dessert Concert. Social Hour and Silent Auction will begin at 6 pm; concert begins at 7 and will feature Sydney Lett and Charlie Koopman. Tickets are available at the Pella Opera House (641-628-8625) and the Habitat office (641-828-8844).





February 9 Work Systems presents Free Fitness Day

In conjunction with American Heart Health Month, Pella Work Systems Rehab and Fitness presents: FREE FITNESS DAY! FREE ADMISSION for non-members and membership specials ALL DAY LONG! We are hosting a Group Fitness Launch from 7:30am-11:30am. This is a great way to try out group fitness: shortened versions of our most popular classes. Come for one or two classes or stay for the whole morning! The following classes will be available during the launch: BodyPUMP, BodyCOMBAT, RPM, Yoga, Zumba and WorX Training. Childcare available for children 6wks and up in our Daycare Room and Fun Factory. Work Systems Pella Rehab will offer: Free trial of MOG Kidz (K-5th grade), Injury Screens, ASTYM trials, 5 min Massages, Blood Pressure & Heart Rate Screening, Pediatric Developmental Screens (Please call 641-621-0230 for appointment). February 9 Lake Red Rock's Red-Nose Tourney (Ice Fishing)

The 3rd Annual Red Nose Ice Fishing Tourney will raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Iowa Chapter. The tournament will be held from 9am to 1pm. Registration forms can be found at redrocklakeassociation.org. Registration cost is $40 per two person team if completed before the day of the event. Cash prizes will be given to the top 3 finishers. NOTE: Originally scheduled for January 26, moved back to February 9 due to lack of ice.





February 9 Serve Our Youth's Family Fun Day

Family, Friends, Parents and Grandparents, come one, come all! Serve Our Youth Network would like to invite you to the Annual Family Fun Day from 10 am - 2 pm at the Vermeer Pavilion. We will have inflatables, games, and lunch for all.  Bring your families for some great fun and let us say "thank you" for your support of Serve Our Youth. No cost to get in, to have fun or for lunch. Freewill donations are appreciated.





February 9 Work Systems presents Parents Night Out

Parents Night Out is getting Heart Healthy! This is for kids ages 3-9 years old, 3-7 pm. Children 1-3 years have a 3 hour limit (3-5 pm). Ongoing: Thursday Bingo Night

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church).
