Steve Fopma, a part of the Leighton State Bank team for more than 12 years, has been named President and Chief Executive Officer.
Steve joined Leighton State Bank in 1997 as a vice president and branch manager when the bank opened its Pella location. He later was named executive vice president and senior loan officer. Three years ago, he took over the reins as chief operating officer. Steve has contributed over 25 years of experience in the banking industry and the experience and knowledge he has will benefit the bank in this changing environment.
“Over the past several years, I have been very involved in our bank’s lending functions, “Steve said. “I’ll be stepping back from that a bit to focus more on guiding our operating and strategic direction.”
Maintaining and strengthening the bank’s commitment to its local customers is also a part of Steve’s job.
“At Leighton State Bank, we pride ourselves in being a local, community bank that is engaged in our communities,” said Fopma. “Our mission is to help our customers achieve their financial goals with personal care and professional service. Our loan-to-deposit ratio of 85 percent demonstrates our desire to reinvest our deposit money into the communities that we serve. An important goal of Leighton State Bank is to provide a safe, sound and stable banking environment.”
Raised on a farm near Killduff, Iowa, Fopma is a graduate of Dordt College in Sioux Center. He has graduated from many specialized banking programs and courses, including the Graduate School of Banking, a three-year banking management program offered by the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Steve and his wife Sharon have four children.
Leighton State Bank has two locations, 900 Washington Street in Pella and at 225 Otley Street in Leighton. It has 22 employees with total assets of 96 million and 68 million in loans.
