January 3-23 Calvin College January Series

With topics ranging from immigration to biomedical ethics to the "underground railroad" in North Korea, you are invited to the Calvin College January Series beginning Thursday, January 3, 2013, and continuing weekdays through January 23 in the Third Reformed Church auditorium.  Each lecture will be shown via a "live feed" from Calvin College from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Third Church is one of 38 remote webcast sites across the continent.  For information about the speakers and topics, visit the January Series website at www.calvin.edu/january/2013.  Don't miss out on this chance to hear fabulous lectures and experience a piece of Calvin College right here in Pella!  Admission is free, and all lectures are open to the public.  Contact the Third Church office with questions at 628-3051.





January 4 Pella vs. Pella Christian Pre-game Soup Supper

Pella Dollars for Scholars and Pella Rotary invite you to come a little early and get warmed up with dinner for the Pella High School vs. Pella Christian High School basketball games. Held in the Pella Christian High School cafeteria from 4:30-6:30 pm, free will donation to help fund scholarships to seniors at both schools and service projects for Pella Rotary. Will feature homemade chili and chicken and rice soup, cheesy bread sticks, cookies, and drinks.





January 5 Work Systems presents MOG Kidz preview

Program preview 9-10:30 am for all 3rd-5th grade children! Parents are encouraged to stay and observe the program and meet the instructors. What is M.O.G. Kidz? M.O.G. Kidz provides nutrition education, recreation, and teaches kidz to use their five senses to achieve optimal alertness for enhanced daily routines, including learning. M.O.G. Kidz is a fun and active group learning environment for all children grades 3-5. Our goal is that through experiential learning, children will grow into healthy adults, practicing physical activity and proper nutrition. January 6 Pella Wedding Extravaganza

All things wedding! Noon to 4 pm at the PH Kuyper Gymnasium, Central College. Free Admission. $1,000 Grand Prize Drawing! Register to participate in the first annual Cake Dive; 10 brides, 1 cake, 10 prizes (1 $500 cash prize).





January 7 Divorce Care for Kids Workshop

Divorce Care for Kids Workshop is for children age kindergarten through 12th grade who are dealing with parents' divorce. Informational and fun, free. Held on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8 pm at Trinity Reformed Church, runs from January 7 to March 4. Must register to attend. January 8 Work Systems presents Health and Wellness Class

Attend this FREE seminar to learn the simple steps to living a healthier lifestyle and now you can receive access to a FREE personal Health Coach! January 12 Pella Opera House presents Iowa Bands in Concert

The Iowa Opera House project brings Iowa artists to local venues. Hear Dave Moore, Sam Knutson, John Waite, and Thankful Dirt perform! 7 pm at the Pella Opera House; tickets are $10, contact 628-8625 or boxoffice@pellaoperahouse.org with questions.

Ongoing: Thursday Bingo Night

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church). Game prices range from $0.50 to 2.00 a game or $17 for a game packet. For more information contact Peggy Moriarity at 641-628-1549.
