Pella —
Not many will argue Pella is a good place - for many reasons. But when someone from the warm temperatures of Florida ranks it as one of the top 50 'small' cities in America, a person takes notice.
Charles Anderson, 73, of Winter Haven, FL, recently released his newest version of In Search of Eden – America's Best Small Cities. In 2012, Pella had found itself just outside of Anderson's top 50, but in his 2013 edition Pella cracked the top 50, coming in at #47.
"Pella is one of my favorites," Anderson said. "It is one of the prettiest towns and if it was in a warmer part of the country it would be rated much higher."
Anderson, who has a degree in geography from Michigan State and also graduate work from Kansas State, says he used a dozen individual categories in order to separate cities from one another.
Inspired from a somewhat outdated Norman Rockwell book of the 50 Best Cities published in the 1950s, Anderson took it upon himself to produce a more up to date list of the small cities in the country.
Other nearby cities who found themselves ranked in Anderson's list include Seward, NE, Waterloo, IL, Fulton, MO, Spearfish, SD and Gothenburg, NE. Anderson's top choice went to Gettysburg, PA.
