OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe, a program of Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc. will take to the road for its 2013 tour on January 28, 2013. The group will perform John Davies’ The Three Little Pigs, a telling of the classic fairy tale through the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a reduced version for five singers of Gaetano Donizetti’s romantic comedy The Elixir of Love, which will appear at the Pella Opera House on Monday, February 11, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults and $5 for all students. OPERA Iowa will visit more than 60 schools and communities, giving 80 or more performances for approximately 20,000 school-aged children starting on January 28 and extending through April 12. The school performances are presented in conjunction with interactive and engaging workshops that meet the National Standards for Arts in Education guidelines. The troupe will also give 11 evening concert performances for community audiences in various locations across the state. These performances are open to the public. A complete listing of OPERA Iowa’s performance schedule will be available online after January 31.
The OPERA Iowa troupe will perform for students in public and private schools across Iowa. The communities the troupe will visit are Des Moines, Dubuque, Indianola, Urbandale, Cedar Rapids, Marion, Robins, Ottumwa, Pella, Wapello, Bloomfield, Muscatine, Algona, Spencer, Cherokee, Toledo, Waukee, Ames, Stratford, Union, Webster City, Sioux City, West Des Moines, Elk Horn, Manning, Carroll, Oskaloosa, Ankeny, Carlisle, Clarinda, Corning, Clearfield, Mount Vernon, and Keokuk in Iowa and Kansas City and Liberty in Missouri.
