The Good Samaritan Free Clinic in Pella provides basic medical services for illness, minor injury care, child wellness/preventive care, and physicals for schools, sports and work. The clinic is part of Free Clinics of Iowa, a non-profit organization of clinics that provide free medical services to people without health insurance or are uninsured.
The Pella Good Samaritan Free Medical Clinic provides free medical services to people without health insurance. More than 400 uninsured patients were served at the Free Medical Clinic in Pella in 2008. The clinic, celebrating their 10th anniversary this year, opened in September 1999.
The Pella clinic is located at the First Reformed Church at 605 Broadway Street. The clinic is open on the first, second and third Thursday of the month from 6 to 8 pm. No appointment is necessary, but patients must check in between 6-7 pm. In order for the clinic to stay operational, many health care professionals volunteer their time to provide quality medical services. Each year, physicians provide more than 80 hours of their time, nurses provide more than 170 hours of their time and reception staff provide almost 140 hours of their time.
Volunteering nurses include Marilyn DeBruin, Jean DeWaard, Florence Dieleman, Carol Fugitt, Sandy Fynaardt, Beth Kingma, Patrice Langenfeld, Edith Oltmann, Brenda Rykhoek, Kathy Sokol, Melissa Vandenberg, Jan Vander Voort, Lynn Van Vark and Verna Zylstra.
Volunteering providers include Dr. Spencer Carlstone, Dr. Ron Childerston, Dr. Danielle Clark, Dr. Dave Daining, Dr. Matt Doty, Dr. David Fredrickson, Dr. Matt Gritters, Dr. John Kanis, Dr. Jennifer Palmer, Dr. Richard Posthuma, Dr. Dale Vander Broek, Dr. Nancy Vander Broek, Dr. Galyn Vande Zande, Dr. Craig Wittenberg, Physician Assistant Julie Lautenbach and Nurse Practitioner Tracy Dickel.
Volunteering clerical/check-in people include Becky Bandstra, Dot Beason, Kathy Benscoter, Chris Branderhorst, Jolene Furr, Ginny Geetings, Sherril Graham, Marla Hardin, Julie Hooyer, Bev Meyer, Jim Snyder, Sharon Stuart, Barbara Vander Werff, Sue Van Vark and Dick Whitaker.
Volunteering dentists include Dr. Jeffrey Allen, Dr. David Barnes, Dr. James Dahm, Dr. Jeff Dahm, Dr. Leigh Rasmussen, Dr. Eric Recker and Dr. Mark Recker.
Volunteering eye doctors include Dr. Ralph De Haan, Dr. James Else, Dr. Sandra Hundt and Dr. Wayne Vander Leest.
The clinic manager is Connie Bandstra. The nurse managers are Jeanne De Waard, Kathy George and Jan Vande Voort. The medical director is Danielle Clark, DO.

PC celebrates homecoming with fun, games
Last week many activites and events took place as Pella Christian celebrated homecoming.
Each day during the week had a special focus all culminating toward Friday when everyone wore school colors. Regular classes were held on Friday morning, and then at 1 p.m., PC staff and students began the official activities with a 30-minutes assembly in the auditorium, followed by fun and games until 3 p.m. when the king and queen were announced.
This year’s King was Drew Stravers and Queen was Leah Vander Hart
Friday evening featured the girls’ and boys’ basketball game, with halftime entertainment consisting of the drill team, a featured lip sync from the afternoon’s events, and again the presentation of the king, queen and court. Alumni were also recognized.
