Pella —
On Sept. 6 & 7, Hospice of Pella at Pella Regional Health Center will be hosting a 2-day conference on grief. All workshops will be held at Third Reformed Church and are free and open to the public.
Sept. 6, 9 am – 3 pm: Companioning the Bereaved: A Workshop for Caregivers
This informative workshop will help participants enhance their knowledge and skills related to supporting people experiencing grief and loss. Dr. Alan Wolfelt will explore a “companioning” model of bereavement care that recognizes grief as a normal and necessary process that is fundamentally a journey of the heart and soul. Participants will go away with a wealth of knowledge as they explore the transformative nature of grief.
Sept. 6, 7 – 9 pm: Understanding Your Grief: Touchstones for Hope and Healing
(Geared toward a public audience.)
This program will help all of us understand how loss influences our lives. You will be able to embrace the uniqueness of your grief, quietly reflect on your feelings of loss, learn about the six essential needs we all have when someone dies, and come to understand the difference between “reconciling” your grief and “resolving” your grief. Do not miss this opportunity to learn from one of North America’s leading grief counselors.
Sept. 7, 9 am – Noon: Exploring “Complicated” Mourning: Sudden Death, Suicide Grief & Trauma Loss
Participants in this workshop will be able to enhance their sensitivity to the special features of sudden death and suicide grief. Suicide is death by just another name, but the implications and stigma that surround its mystery and aftermath are strong enough to touch every facet of our lives and of society. Come join us as we explore a variety of important issues that will help you enhance your awareness and skills related to these important topics.
The speaker, Dr. Alan Wolfelt, is founder and director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition. He is best known for his method of “companioning versus treating,” simply meaning he is committed to helping others “mourn well so they can live well and love well.”
For more information or to register, visit our web site at www.pellahealth.org/griefconference or call 641-620-5050.
Hospice of Pella is able to present Dr. Alan Wolfelt to the community with the generous support of Garden Chapel Funeral Homes, Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home, Third Reformed Church and an anonymous donor.
