Pella —
Don’t worry – the windmill welcoming visitors into town in Brinkhoff Park will be back, just a newer version in a different location within the park.
Volunteer Chad Vande Lune tells The Chronicle that the windmill was in ‘bad’ shape and is being taken offsite and a new one will be constructed by volunteers.
“The windmill will be moved farther back from the road and more in the sightline with the welcome sign and flag pole,” Vande Lune said.
Vande Lune is hoping to attract a few construction-minded volunteers as the idea of the new windmill is there.
“We just need help building it,” Vande Lune said. “The current windmill is just not salvageable it its current shape.”
With the help of Rick and Dody Boat, who are donating space for the new project to be built, and the Pella Garden Club who Vande Lune says has been very helpful on the fundraising end of things, the project is off and running.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Vande Lune said.
