Hospice of Pella fundraiser a success

Pella Regional Health Center held a fundraiser, Hearts for Hospice on Saturday, Feb 23, grossing more than $12,000 to support end of life care at Hospice of Pella. The event featured a formal dinner, silent auction, music and speakers.

“The event was quite a success, especially for its first year,” said Jesse Underwood, director of the Foundation at Pella Regional Health Center. “It was great to see all the people who came out for this worthy cause. We had a night filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, and great memories that will last well into the future.”

Hospice of Pella is committed to providing medical services, emotional support, and spiritual resources for the people of our community who are in the last stages of life.

Hospices nationwide are dependent upon donations in order to carry out the ministry of end of life care; Hospice of Pella is no exception. While Medicare and other commercial insurance carriers offer hospice benefits, the reimbursement they provide does not cover even a quarter of the cost of care for a patient. The ever-decreasing funding for rural hospitals increases the financial strain on Hospice of Pella.
