MCHS meeting to feature Civil War history

Pella — The Marion County Historical Society meets March 18 at 7:30 pm at the Methodist Activity Center in Knoxville.  Central College student Tony Pearson will share  his research on the Ruckman bothers and their role in the Civil War.  John and Joseph Ruckman of rural Marion county were students at Central College when they answered the call to become part of the 3rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry.  They lost their lives in July 1863 at a battle in Jackson, Miss.

Mr. Pearson, a non-traditional student, has spent several years researching the Civil War history.  Anyone who is interested in hearing more about Marion County’s role in the Civil War is invited to attend this meeting. MCS meets on the 3rd Monday (March through November) and welcomes the public to attend.  For more information contact 641-842-4895 or 641-628-4716.
