February 16-17 Central College presents "Dido and Aeneas" Opera
On Feb. 16-17, students from the Central College music department will be performing Henry Purcell's opera "Dido and Aeneas." The one-hour opera tells the ill-fated love story of Aeneas, a Trojan prince and Dido, Queen of Carthage. The opera will be accompanied by members of the Central College-Community Orchestra and Brian Nolder, pastor at Christ the Redeemer Church in Pella, on harpsichord. Performances will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, Feb. 17 at 4 pm. Tickets are required due to limited seating. The free tickets can be picked up at the Cox-Snow Music Center office. Reserve in advance by calling 641-628-5236.

February 18 PCGS Spanish Immersion New Parent Meeting
Now-February 14 Central College presents Sculpture Exhibit "Extended Play"
Mills Gallery at Central College will host sculptures by Shaila Christofferson. The exhibit, titled "Extended Play," examines material culture and the contemporary landscape through sculpture media. Christofferson will speak at an artist reception in the gallery on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public, gallery is open Monday-Friday 9 am- 5 pm.
February 20 - March 22 Central College presents painter John Preston (Gallery)
Artist John Preston will be displaying his landscape paintings in the Central College Mills Gallery starting Feb. 20. Originally from the east coast, Preston moved to Fairfield, Iowa, to study in 1984. His popular landscapes derive from Jefferson and Van Buren counties, featuring fields, tree islands, fence rows and paths of gravel curving over prairies. The paintings are back dropped against a variety of weather events from his observations, memories and imagination. The exhibit will be open until March 22. In addition to his work in the gallery, Preston will host an artist talk and reception on March 27 at 5 pm. Preston's work can be seen during gallery hours, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church).
