BCS holds annual Dinner & Dessert Gala

Pella — Bethany Christian Services held its second annual Dinner & Dessert Gala on Nov. 3 at the Vermeer Global Pavilion.

"We have so much fun," Leah Garland of Bethany Christian Services of South Central Iowa said. "We had 180 attend (up 20 from from last year). What made the night so special was the whole community came together and everyone had a 'piece' in it."

Garland commented that a variety of community members were involved from those with a strong passion for Bethany Christian Services to just common, everyday people who donated items or desserts.

"It worked out so well," Garland said.

Prior to the catered meal by Country Catering, a silent auction was held for approximately 30 minutes. During the meal, a program was provided to the audience by Josh Cowman followed by the live dessert auction.

"It was crazy," Garland said of the live auction. "People were bidding so quickly and were pooling their money together."

In all a total of 38 desserts were auctioned off ranging from cheesecakes to other desserts.

"It was so much fun watching how it played out," Garland said. "It was great to see everyone go home full."

Just over $40,000 dollars was raised during the evening, with $35,000 coming from desserts alone. Those in audience came from as far away was Cedar Rapids, while a majority were from the Pella and Des Moines area.

"Donations keep coming in," Garland said. "It is awesome to see for those who we serve."

Plans are already in the works for next year - Nov. 9, 2013.

"Mark your calendar," Garland said.
