Minnie Uitermarkt

Pella — Minnie Jean was born on January 21, 1934, in Jasper County, Iowa, a daughter of Theodore and Rachel Trynie (Bogaards) Van Dorland. She grew up in the Pella, Iowa area where she graduated from grade school and attended high school. On March 28, 1952, she was united in marriage with Edward Lee Uitermarkt. Ed was drafted into the United States Army in August, 1952, and in March, 1953, he was deployed to Germany. While in Germany, their son, Jerry Lee, was born on November 17, 1953. Minnie Jean was an active worker, having learned that well from her mother, Rachel. She worked at the Rolscreen Company in Pella a short time and then as a waitress.  For many years she cleaned houses with her mother and Aunties. She loved to cook and bake for her family and kept a meticulously clean home. She enjoyed playing her organ and country gospel music. She and Ed enjoyed winter vacations and summer fishing trips to Canada with her Aunt Mollie and Uncle Franklin (Boomer) Brom. In later years she enjoyed having her grandchildren for sleep overs and decorating and sharing Christmas with them. In 2006, Minnie was diagnosed with the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s Disease and became a resident at Jefferson Place in Pella in January, 2008. Ed visited her faithfully, every day, where she passed away on Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 2012, at the age of 78 years. Minnie Jean is survived by her husband, Ed Uitermarkt; her son, Jerry L. Uitermarkt and his wife, Martha (Ryken) of Pella; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. They are Douglas Lee and Patti (Rozenboom) Uitermarkt of Pella, Colten Lee Uitermarkt, Emily Grace Uitermarkt, Dylan Marshall Uitermarkt, Jeffrey Gene and Tricia (Routh) Uitermarkt of Otley, Decker Joe Uitermarkt, Grady Edward Uitermarkt, Kristin Lynn and Mark Workman of Tinley Park, Kayli Lynn Workman, Caden James Workman, Coy Jacob Workman.

Minnie Jean leaves her half-sister,  Delores Maxine (Van Dorland ) Spoelstra of Pella; a step-sister, Dorothy (Uitermarkt) and her husband, Jerry Krusemark of Jesup, Iowa; a step-brother, Willard (Bud) Uitermarkt and his wife, Judy, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andrew and Mary Ellen Uitermarkt of Pella; along with five Aunts: Alberta (Bogaards) Mitchel, Bernice (Bogaards) Sneller, Faye (William A.M.) Bogaards; Harriet (Uitermarkt) Vanden Baard and Maxine (Albert) Uitermarkt; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Van Dorland, her mother, Rachel (Van Dorland) Uitermarkt, her step-father, William Uitermarkt; and her brother-in-law, Marvin Spoelstra. Minnie made profession of her faith at an early age at the Open Bible Church in Pella and remained a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella the remainder of her lifetime.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.  Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home.
