Pella — Margaret Van Haaften was born on March 21, 1914, to Adrian and Sarah Vander Molen Vos in rural Mahaska County. Margaret went to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 98.

Margaret received her early education at the Peoria Christian Grade School and made profession of her faith in the Peoria Christian Reformed Church.

She worked  at Rexall Drug and also cared for her mother until her mother’s death in 1969. On February 21, 1970, she was united in marriage with Louis M. Van Haaften at the Faith Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Louis passed away on October 4, 1991. In 2004 Margaret moved to Jefferson Place and, thanks to the caring staff,  she felt at home.

Margaret was a charter member of the Faith Christian Reformed Church where she enjoyed worship services and Bible studies. She was a member of the Pella Christian High Auxiliary, Pella Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer in other organizations including Work of Our Hands. She also spent many hours making rugs on a loom and enjoyed traveling.

Those left to cherish her memory are her step-son and his wife, Marvin and Joyce Van Haaften of Pella, her sister Anna Roose of Pella, her sister-in-law Cornelia Vos of Oskaloosa, five step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, her parents, brothers Peter G. Vos, Ben A. Vos, Cornie Vos, Martin Vos and two sisters who died at an early age.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Faith Christian Reformed Church.  Burial took place at the Graceland Cemetery near Pella.
