Jean De Jong

Pella — Jean B. De Jong was born June 27, 1920 in Pella, Iowa the daughter of James Isaac Woods and Mary Elizabeth (Darst) Woods.

As a girl Jean was raised in the Pella area and attended school there.  In 1938 she was united in marriage to Marion John James “Jim” De Jong.  Jim was a Baptist minister, so the couple moved all around the Midwest serving various churches.  They had one son, Max James De Jong.  The couple retired in Missouri, and then moved to Knoxville in the late 1980’s.

Jean passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Griffin Nursing Center, in Knoxville, at the age of 92 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; son, Max and 12 siblings.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jessie De Jong of Pella; two grandsons:  Martin De Jong (Diane) of Leighton and Steve De Jong (Kathryn) of Eaton, Colorado; granddaughter, Kristine (Ron) Massey of Gastonia, NC and a great-grandson, Jae De Jong of Leighton.

Jean has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.  Bybee & Davis Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
