Wayne Vanden Berg

Pella — Cornie Wayne Vanden Berg was born May 15, 1924, to Cornie and Beryl Reynolds Vanden Berg near Fifield, Iowa.  He passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012, at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care at the age of eighty-eight.

Wayne received his early education in the Pella area schools, graduating from Pella High School with the class of 1941.

In November of 1944 he was called to serve his country with the United States Army.  He was discharged two years later in November of 1946.

On September 22, 1947, Wayne was united in marriage with Jeanne Gregory in Knoxville, Iowa.  To this union two children were born: Mikki and Greg.

Wayne was employed for nine years as a meat cutter at Vanden Berg Market. He then worked for the State of Iowa as an assistant director of the commerce department.  He retired after twenty-three years of service with the state.  After retirement he managed Prairie Village in Pella and more recently managed the Pella Super Wash.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his children: daughter Mikki Van Dusseldorp of Pella and son, Greg Vanden Berg of Pella; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Vanden Berg Douwstra of Chandler, Arizona; and his special friend and fishing buddy, Dorothy Vande Voort.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Jeanne; son-in-law, Larry Van Dusseldorp; and grandson, Jeff Van Dusseldorp.

Wayne will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed by his family.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 26, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Pella.  Burial took place at the Oakwood Cemetery.  The Garden Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
