Clifford Van Rheenen

Pella — Clifford C. Van Rheenen, 93, of Mendota died Dec. 30, 2012, in Mendota Community Hospital. Services were held Jan. 2, in First Presbyterian Church, Mendota, with the Rev. Michael Morrell officiating. Burial will place at a later date in Pella.

Arrangements were provided by Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota.

Clifford was born April 23, 1919, in Pella to Henry and Maggie (Mathes) Van Rheenen. He married Ada Van Steenis on Oct. 23, 1941, in Pella. He farmed for several years on the family farm, sold agricultural chemicals and Crows Seed Corn before becoming district sales manager for Crows Seed. He later sold life insurance and worked construction with his son Randy in Ottawa, Il. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mendota.

He is survived by one daughter, Ferne (Jim) Sweany of Chicago; four sons, Kenny (Kim) Van Rheenen of Mendota, Randy (Lucy) Van Rheenen of Ottawa, Arvin (Mary) Van Rheenen of Elmore City, Okla., and Darl (Barbara) Van Rheenen of Amana, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Brad, Rick, Shawna, Sean Patrick, Jack, Travis, Logan, Kristin, Beth and Mandy; 11 great-grandchildren, Blaize, Jeremy, Issac, David, Ellena, Mike, Tanner, Taylor, Tori, Suzanne and Eric; and special friend, Harriet Selders.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002; five brothers and four sisters.

Memorials may be directed to his church or Heifer International.
