Pella —
Pella Christian High School will be presenting their spring drama, I Remember Mama, this Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24, 2012. Both performances will begin at 7:00 pm in the Vermeer Auditorium at Pella Christian High School, 300 Eagle Lane.
One of the most heartwarming studies of American family life yet to reach the stage, I Remember Mama, is a classic drama still popular for high schools today. Based on the fictionalized memoir Mama's Bank Account by Kathryn Forbes, the show focuses on the Hansons, a loving family of Norwegian immigrants living in their modest San Francisco home during the 1910s. Mama, with the help of her husband, sees her children through childhood, manages to educate them and even is able to see one of her daughters begin her career as a writer. Mama's sisters and her Uncle Chris furnish much of comedy, intermixed with a little incidental tragedy, while the doings of the children manage to keep everyone in pleasant turmoil.
Amber Attema and Jalissa Morgan play Mama and her daughter Katrin. Additional family members are played by Leighton Schnedler (Papa), Justin Vos (Nels), Cailee Veenstra (Christine), and Madison Thingstad (Dagmar)
Mama's sisters, the three aunts, will be played by Delaney Dugger, Loren Griggs, and Leah Blankespoor. Jacob Fincel will play the role of Uncle Chris and Jordan Breon will play the role of Mr. Torkelson.
The sentimental comedy, also performed by PCHS in 1962 and in 1974 under the direction of Case Vande Ree, includes a cast of 19 students and 21 crew members. Students in leadership positions include Zach Van Wyk (Production Coordinator), Joey Harger and Kylie Lamb (Student Directors), Leah Vander Hart (Stage Manager), Lucas Vander Wal (Sound), Danielle Jansen (Lights), and Alexa Zylstra (Makeup).
The production is being directed by Marlo Van Peursem with Tech Assistance by Daryl Van Zee.
Reserved Tickets for this weekend's production of I Remember Mama are on sale in the school office--$5 for Adults and $4 for students. Remaining seats will be sold at the door.
