Board approves resignation of Jones, hires Steddom as interim principal at Madison

Pella — The Pella School Board approved the resignation of Madison Elementary Principal Kate Jones, as well as a separation agreement at their meeting on July 19. John Steddom will serve at Interim Principal at Madison Elementary for the 2012-13 time period. The board approved Steddom's hire during the meeting.

In other business, the board heard a review of the Middle School's Second Chance Reading Program (SCR) from Dana Gleason. Gleason explained to the board a day-to-day review of what the program consisted of including before school study halls, co-taught literature classes, small group study halls, 10th period planner checkout meetings and after school study sessions.

The board also approved several designations for 2012-13 including The Chronicle as official publication for the district, Ahlers & Cooney, P.C. law firm as the district's legal counsel, Roger DeWaard as the district's Board Secretary/Treasurer and approved the official depositories for the district. The board also approved the district's EMC Insurance Renewal for 2012-13.

A total of 104 students will take advantage of the district's child care and business during the Wednesday early dismissal times in the upcoming year. The total cost for the district will be $13,129.39.

The board also approved the adoption of the Marion County Hazard Mitigation Plan as presented and set top priorities which will be sent to the Iowa Association of School Boards for the upcoming legislative session. The board identified a top five of the thirty-plus priorities they had to choose from.
