Pella Christian High School continued their successful speech forensic season at the IHSSA’s District Individual Events competition on Saturday, February 25 at Oskaloosa High School. 13 of the 16 events entered received I’s and a spot at the State competition on March 10 at Clinton High School.
The Iowa High School Speech Association (IHSSA) had over 40,000 students participate across the state at the District level. The Pella Christian team is coached by Marlo Van Peursem and Helen Luhrs.
PCHS students earning the I’s at the District event include: Amber Attema (Acting and Storytelling), Shayla De Jong (Lit Program), Kate Van Gilst (Prose and After Dinner), Lauren Griggs (Musical Theatre), Buffy Bouwkamp (Musical Theatre), Cory Van Gilst (Lit Program), Malia Beatty (Poetry and Storytelling), Andrea De Bruin (Lit Program), Rebecca Gritters (Prose), and Jessi Vos (Poetry).
Events receiving II’s include Marina Shannon (Poetry), Cory Van Gilst (Musical Theatre) and Andrea De Bruin (Poetry).

Pella Christian High School concluded its Theatre Season with “Thieves’ Carnival. on March 22-23, at the Vermeer Auditorium at Pella Christian High School. The comedy included a cast of 20 students and 16 technicians and crew members. The production was directed by Marlo Van Peursem with Tech direction by Daryl Van Zee. (Photos by Kenn Krpan)
