Dr. Russ Van Hemert will be presented one of three sports medicine awards at the 2010 Boys’ State Basketball Tournament later this week in Des Moines.
Dr. Van Hemert is a Pella native and received his training from Palmer College of Chiropractic and continued his education by becoming a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician.
He has provided sports medicine coverage for many sporting events, including football, basketball, volleyball and soccer for Pella Community and Pella Christian High Schools.
Van Hemert has been serving the community for more than 25 years and has utilized leading edge treatments to accelerate the healing process of sports-related injuries.
In addition to his service to athletics, he has served on the Pella Christian School Board. Dr. Van Hemert and his wife, Caryn, have three children and one grandchild.
He will receive his award at halftime of the Class 2A championship game Friday night.
