Webb earns 2 silver and 1 bronze at ISI Sr. Short Course Champs

Swimmers for the USA Swimming affiliated Pella Swim Club competed in the ISI Sr. Short Course State Champs meet Feb 21-24, in Iowa City.

A Tuesday night glass breakage incident at the University of Iowa Rec Center’s state of the art competition pool caused a last minute change of venues to the University’s Field House Pool.

The historic pool was once again filled with great competition and the Pella swimmers were part of race finishes that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Fourteen year-old Isaak Webb earned two silver medals and a bronze in the 13-14 men’s age group. All of Webb’s medals were earned with the narrowest of margins. His first Silver medal came Friday night in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.81, Oliver Martin from I-Fly earned the gold putting up a time of 1:01.02 and Leo Xiao from ICE, the bronze with a 1:02. 28.

Webb’s second silver medal came Saturday night in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:15.00 with Martin again edging Webb out for the gold swimming a time of 2:14.78.

Webb’s bronze was earned Sunday in the 200 Individual Medley, with a time of 2:04.32 just edging out Andrew Parr from I-Fly as he put up a time of 2:04.44.

After Isaak Webb’s strong swims this weekend he is now nationally ranked in the 13-14 men’s division at 66th in the nation in the 100 Breaststroke and 59th in the 200 Breaststroke.

Four of Samantha Hedrick’s finals events had her finishing just fractions of a second off the medal stand. Webb’s three medal times were fast enough to advance him on to the March 7-10, Speedo Sectionals where he will be joining teammate Samantha Hedrick who has also qualified three individual events.

Other Pella Swimmers competing in individual events included Madeline Webb, Jean Etnyre, and Jake Lensing. Filling out the clubs open relay teams included Alexis DeVries, Hank Hammer and Caleb Gaylor. 430 athletes from 20 clubs qualified to participate at the state meet.
