Ogden clips the Pella Christian Eagles for first loss in Class 1A play 28-14

Pella — The Ogden Bulldogs gave the Pella Christian Eagles its first loss of the 2012 football season.

Ogden raced to a 21-0 lead at halftime last Friday night at home scoring all three touchdowns in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs went on to post a 28-14 win.

Ogden moved to 3-1 in district play with the victory while the Eagles fell to 2-1 in the district and 5-1 overall.

PC had trouble slowing down the Ogden ground attack. Cody Good led the way with 21 carries for 135 yards and two scores, both in the second quarter.

Good opened the scoring with a 3-yard run with 10:21 left in the second quarter for a 7-0 advantage. Caleb Frye scored on a 13-yard run on a quarterback keeper for a 14-0 advantage.

Good ended the first half scoring with a 3-yard run to cap a seven play 70-yard drive putting the score at 21-0.

Derek Van Kooten cut the deficit to 21-7 as the Eagles marched 59-yards in seven plays in the third quarter. The PAT kick by Jacob Brouwer split the uprights.

An 11-yard touchdown by Jonathan Thompson early in the fourth quarter answered the PC score to put the lead at 28-7.

The final score of the night was a Coltin Collins touchdown pass of 41-yards to Blake Riggen making the final 28-14.

Statistics

Final statistics had PC with 256 yards of offense, 151 passing and 105 on the ground.

The Bulldogs totaled 218 yards rushing and 73 passing for 291 yards of offense.

The Eagles were hampered with two turnovers in the game, one fumble and one pass interception. Ogden didn’t turn the ball over.

Mason Howerzyl led the PC rushing attack with 59 yards on 20 attempts while Derek Van Kooten added 34 yards on 10 tries.

Collins was 8-of-18 passing for 151 yards.

Riggen caught four passes for 88 yards and Van Kooten snagged two four 47 and Alex Van Maanen two for 16.

Top tacklers for the Eagles were Alex Van Maanen with nine, Zack Giddings and Collins with seven each, Michael Mason six, Mason Howerzyl and Zach Van Zee with five.
