Bentzinger hits for 20 in Pella High Regional win over the Lady Jays

By Perry Bell

Lindsay Bentzinger had the hot hand and the Dutch kept feeding her the ball Saturday in a Class 3A Regional Semi-final round game against Bondurant-Farrar.

The Dutch, playing at home, used the 20-point night from Bentzinger en route to a 50-25 win over the Lady Jays.

Pella moved to within a win of qualifying for state as they improved to 18-4 overall. The Lady Jays bow out of the tournament at 14-8.

Bentzinger had 13 of Pella’s 28 points in the opening half.

B-F opened in a zone, but the Pella guard, shot them right out of their game plan.

The Dutch held quarter leads of 13-10, 28-17 and 42-18 on their home court for the final time this season.

Kelsey Fynaardt and Courtney Kelderman each added seven points for Pella while Hali Steenhoek added five, Jordyn Vande Lune four and Makenzie Vander Molen three points.

Rounding out the Pella scoring were Whitney Pavlat and Mackenzie Anthony each with two points.

B-F was placed by Sabrina Hargis with 11 points and Bobbi Jo Burrows with six.

“We played good defense tonight,” Bentzinger said after the game. “They (B-F) left me open, so I kept shooting.”

The 20 points was a career high for the Pella junior guard.

Coach Jerod Garland added, “The girls fed off playing defense and we managed to get on a couple of runs.”

“I”m pleased with the win, we were very worried about this game,” Garland said.
